Aeration is an important factor is maintaining water quality   AES Europe Ltd stocks the largest range of aerators in the country and are probably the largest supplier in the UK. We also supply aerators to countries as far apart as France, Ireland, Serbia, Romania, Ethiopia and Malaysia. We are official stockists for both Futi and Oase aerators and are the largest distributor of Futi aerators in the country.

In a natural, balanced and well managed water there would be little need for aeration but due to pressures exerted on many waters, especially during summer, supplementary aeration is an essential management tool. Oxygenation is not just important for fish, as virtually all biological processes that take place within a water are dependent on a readily-available supply of oxygen. The dependency on oxygen is crucial at every level including the microscopic bacteria that are needed to process organic waste, the oxidisation of silt, the processing of nutrients or harmful gasses and the countless other systems that are required to maintain a healthy water.

Supplementary aeration is available in many forms: we have spent considerable time and resources investigating the best systems available. Our consultants will always be happy to discuss your individual requirements and recommend the best aeration available. All our aerators are assembled and tested by our own technician to ensure the aerators arrive ready to use. In addition, we can offer a comprehensive installation service for those buyers who lack the facilities or staff to install the units themselves. FUTI AERATORS

Paddle aeration

Paddle aerators are the most efficient aerator available and are, on average, 30% more efficient than the other types offered in terms of dissolved oxygen added per unit of electrical input. Typically, there will be a motor requirement of approximately 1hp per acre of water. Paddle wheels work by agitating and lifting the water. The splashing effect created provides oxygenation. Paddle aerators are especially popular on commercial fisheries where the water is relatively shallow. We are also seeing increased demand and many repeat purchases from customers who have found them to be very good at suppressing aquatic weed growth

Best used for: waters less than 1.5m deep; long, thin waters such as match lakes or where flow is required.

Best avoided on: very small waters and /or deep waters, or where there are weak banks within reach of the aerator’s wash, as further erosion may be caused.

December 2013… We can now advertise truly massive paddlewheel aerators with 10 or 12 paddles.  We haven’t had one to try in the UK yet but the photos are amazing.  We would be willing to import these if anyone has a commercial or fishery use for them. 

Air Jet aerators also known as venturi aerators

Air jets are probably the most versatile of our aerators and work by causing a vacuum in the water where atmospheric oxygen is sucked into. With our models, the oxygen input is then broken up by the fast spinning propeller. The models we offer also feature a tilting propeller to enable the depth of aeration to be adjusted, depending on the depth of the water. This aerator is also relatively easy to deploy at short notice or switch between waters. This aerator is popular with owners of deeper waters and for commercial applications such as settlement lagoons and sewage treatment plant aeration. This model is also being increasingly used as a silt agitator to mobilise silts to enable oxidation.

Best used for: deeper waters and waters where the bottom is firmer, as the wash does initially cause some suspension of silt; very weedy waters where weed may block other types.

Best avoided on: shallow waters with a very silty bed where the re-suspended silt could cause harm; or on waters where the aerator would be close to the banks and might cause undercutting.

Splasher aerators also known as mushroom aerators

The splasher is a very versatile aerator and is easily light enough to be transferred between waters, ideal for emergency use. The aerator pulls water up from depth and ejects through the top of the machine creating the “mushroom” effect. The depth that the water can be pulled from can also be increased by adding depth extensions and this is very beneficial as it allows the stagnant, deeper water to be aerated, ensuring that the entire water column is aerated rather than just the surface layers. The splasher aerator is particularly popular on parks and public spaces as the water flow has a fountain affect making it less obtrusive than other models.

Best used for: deeper waters; waters that have weak banks or where quick deployment is required.

Best avoided on: long thin waters (unless accompanied by a paddle aerator); waters where there is a lot of litter/weed that could choke the intake.

Multi aerators

These are very useful additions for smaller waters or where an emergency aerator/pump is required. This aerator in its simplest form is a floating pump that can be used like any other pump. However, with a quick change of fittings (no tools required) it can be used as a smaller version of the splasher (mushroom) aerator.

Best used for: emergency deployment on smaller waters and where pumping is required from time to time.

Best avoided on: large waters or as a permanent aerator or as a permanent pump.

OASE

Oase Aerators and fountains

We carry a full range of Oase aerators and fountains and can supply and install these anywhere in the UK. Many people are aware of the Oase brand for the supply of quality pumps and fittings for the garden pond/aquarist market but in recent years the brand has produced larger models designed for the commercial market whilst still maintaining the high standards of engineering that Oase are renowned for.

Aqua Air 250

This high quality aerator is primarily designed for owner of large ponds and is similar to our own Air Jet aerators shown above, the Aqua Air 250 can aerate a water body of up to 250 square metres and has a power consumption of 0.65kw.

Obviously, many of our aerators are purchased by fishery owners in the UK wishing to ensure the safety of their valuable stocks but listed below are some of the more unusual jobs we have undertaken:

• Aeration required at an industrial munitions site to rotate the water column and allow oxidisation of pollutants
• Aerators sent to a distillery in Ethiopia for polishing lagoon water
• Aerators exported to and installed in Serbia to prevent future fish kills at a lakeside restaurant
• Aerators supplied to sewage treatment works to assist in the processing of human waste
